5 Steps to successfully change a habit

Did you know most of the task you do in your daily life are habits. From the wake up until go to sleep most of the tasks we do are habits. Your habits define where you will be in your future. If you have good habits it will help you reach your goal, be success and be happy. And if most of your habits are bad that will slowly make you unsuccessful, unhealthy and unhappy.

Stopping habits are one of the most difficult task in our life. Instead trying to stop it we can alter the habit. We can change our bad habit into a new good one. In this post I’m going to share with you 5 steps that can successfully change a habit.

Need of the change should come within you

Most important thing to change a habit is that the need of the changing habit should come within you. People will never change their habits because of others’ need. That is the reason parents can’t change their kids’ studying habits. That’s the reason your gym trainer can’t make you workout everyday. Until the requirement comes from inside of you it is not going to happen.

Start Small Start Today

Doing big changes in habits won’t last long. It should change slowly. Let’s take an example of a person who is wake up everyday between 7 and 8 am. If he wants to change that habit into wake up early morning 4.30 or 5 am, he has to do it gradually. First day wake up at 6 am, second day wake up at 5.45 am. etc… That way it will last forever. If he started first day wake up at sharp 5 am his body doesn’t support it so that won’t last long. Our body doesn’t like changes so it always try to go to the previous stage where it operates normally, so we have to change things without hurting the body.

Make it Fun

If your new hobby doesn’t make you happy will it continue for a long period? I don’t think so. And what is the point of having a hobby which make you unhappy. But people can make happiness in any moment. Happiness only relying on the way you see things. If you see only the bad in every thing that of course make you unhappy. One of the great ways to make things fun is having some good friends. That will make you comfortable and happy. If going to gym makes you unhappy try making some friends that will help you to keep on going. If waking up early makes you unhappy or uncomfortable do some fun activity that will make you realise wake up early is better than sleeping.

Evaluate yourself regularly

Evaluation gives a motivation. Doing regular self evaluation will gives you the motivation to continue the hobby and put some more effort. But don’t evaluate yourself with others that will put you in a race which you don’t even want in. You are in a process of making and continuing a hobby.

Write down the progress

Writing the progress can help you to continue the hobby. Reading old stories make you realise how much far have you come with your hobby. If you keep on doing a single good hobby for a year you will be surprised with the result. Using a diery or blogging are two of the best methods to writing the progress. Maintaining a blog will be really helpful in this step so that others also can see your efforts and results. Eventually it can be an added advantage for you.

So here are the five tips to maintain a habit. Starting a new habit is easy but maintaining a habit is vary difficult but sometimes we have to change our bad habits becoz habits are the defining factor of our success. Start new year with a good habit and here are some of the habits to consider,

  • Wake up early
  • Reading a book everyday
  • Gardening
  • Workout everyday
  • Eat healthy food
  • Blogging
